Still Showing the Youngins How It's Done

I played a magfed tournament in Hudson, Florida this spring and left with two takeaways. The first: I'm older now. The second: I still have a lot of fun showing the youngins how it's done.

Most of the field was born after I started playing. The game has gotten faster — the guns, the movement, the pace. But faster isn't the same as better. Experience still wins when it counts, because experience is the one thing on the field you can't buy, borrow, or clone.

The older player doesn't out-run the field; he out-thinks it. Read the angle, take the position, make the shot count. The days of winning on speed are gone. What's left is what actually works: positioning, patience, and precision.

Which brings me to the gear — the FSR, or First Strike Rifle. First-strike rounds are shaped projectiles: fin-stabilized, feed-sensitive, and more expensive per shot. They reward accuracy over volume. They don't let you spray; they make you aim.

That's the lesson in one sentence: precision over spray. When every round costs real money and every miss is on you, you stop spraying and start aiming. It's a paintball truth and a leadership truth — the expensive, finicky option is often the one that forces you to be better.
