The Van Is the Office Now

I bolted a standing desk to the side of my van. It folds out, holds a laptop, and turns a parking lot into a conference room. The point isn't the desk. The point is what it says: the office is wherever you make it.

Remote work was never about the house. It was sold as "work from home," but what it actually unlocked was "work from anywhere" — and "anywhere" turns out to be a van, a desk, and a view that changes every day.

The location is the easy part; the setup is the discipline. The part people get wrong is which half matters. A real desk, a real chair, a real routine — those are what make remote work sustainable, not just possible. Without them, "work from anywhere" becomes "work badly, everywhere."

The desk is a small thing, but it's a commitment. It says: even parked somewhere with no walls, the work still gets a dedicated surface. The same rule applies to a real office — the environment is a promise you make to the work.
